Nick Maughan

Nick Maughan is a British investor and philanthropist. He was born in 1980 in Hammersmith, London where he lived and was educated before studying Religion and Theology at the University of Manchester. He returned to London for his master’s in finance at Cass Business School (now Bayes Business School). At the age of twenty-four Nick left the UK to work in New York and has since lived on both sides of the Atlantic.

Nick founded NMF at the start of the pandemic in 2020 to further a range of philanthropic initiatives in education, the environment and civic support schemes for disenfranchised communities. In addition to its flagship programme BoxWise, Nick’s Foundation sponsors the Charlie Miller Football Academy in Glasgow, funds academic scholarships, is a major donor to the Berkshire Youth Trust and is actively involved in building schools and medical facilities in Eastern Uganda. The foundation is also a leading donor to the conservation charity Tusk, and funds various homeless charities, including Centrepoint (a BoxWise partner) and PhD students in the medical sciences.

Nick is also the founder of the investment company Maughan Capital.

Lord St. John of Bletso

Anthony St John is an Independent Non-Executive Director at the Falcon Group and a Crossbench Member of the House of Lords.

Having qualified as a lawyer in South Africa, Anthony St John spent over 30 years serving as a Director of many UK and internationally listed and unlisted companies. Anthony St John has a strong interest in Africa – particularly in the areas of mining, oil, agriculture and renewable energy.

H.E. Nomatemba Tambo

Nomatemba Tambo was the South African High Commissioner to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, prior to that she served in Hong Kong and Italy. She is the daughter of apartheid struggle hero and former President of the African National Congress (ANC) Oliver Reginald Tambo and heroine Adelaide Tambo.

Nomatemba is co-founder of the South African Women’s Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and Director/Founding Member of Women in Capital Growth (a Black Empowerment Company). She is also a Director of ‘Girls on a Mission’, a Trustee for the Oliver and Adelaide Tambo Foundation, Patron of SchoolAid, South Africa, Patron of The Young Film makers Programme, Patron of the Denis Hurley Association which deals with homelessness in South Africa. She serves on the advisory board of the IBDE. Nomatemba is also Pro Chancellor of Roehampton University.

Bim Afolami, MP.

Son of a doctor and pharmacist, Bim Afolami was educated at Eton College and Oxford University, where he studied History. He was first elected in June 2017 as the Conservative MP for Hitchin and Harpenden, after a career in the City of London; first as a corporate lawyer at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and SImpson Thacher & Bartlett, then as a senior executive at HSBC. He chairs the all party group on Financial Markets and Services, as well as the all party group on Renewable and Sustainable Energy.

Bim is patron of several charities focused on opportunities for young people - in particular Tilehouse Counselling and GRIT (Growing Resilience in Teens) both based in Hitchin, and Harpenden Spotlight on Africa, a Harpenden based charity that works to build and run schools and maternity services in rural Uganda.

Michael Farrant

Michael has more than 20 years’ experience providing strategic communications advice and support to individuals, families and corporates, governments, and political parties.

​

Before setting up Farrant Group, Michael spent over a decade as an owner and Director at Project Associates. He previously worked for a Family Office based in The Bahamas and spent several years at the international corporate communications firm Brunswick. In addition, Michael is a Director of NMF.org, BoxWise and a trustee of Berkshire Youth Trust.


Michael holds a BA in Psychology from Harvard University.

Ed King

Ed King works with governments, businesses, leading NGOs and UN agencies on high-impact, multi-channel strategic communication campaigns to accelerate political action on climate change.

​

In 2011 he founded Climate Home News, now one of the world’s leading sources of global climate news.

​

From 2001-2010 he worked as a reporter, editor and producer at the BBC across digital, TV and radio platforms.
